Jaslika x WERK Fireside Chat: Beijing +30 and Beyond (Session 2)

  • Kenya National Library Service Headquarters Maktaba Kuu - Kenya National Library Service Kilimani Dagoreti North Kenya (map)

Join Jaslika and WERK for a FREE, forward-looking fireside chat examining the future of gender equality in Kenya, 30 years after the transformative Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA).

The 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women (FWCW) in Beijing established a comprehensive framework across 12 critical areas for women's empowerment. While a previous chat explored the historical context and initial shifts catalyzed by the BPfA, this second installment will be critically forward-looking.

The discussion will focus on persistent and emerging challenges to gender equality in Kenya today. It aims to collectively envision the strategic priorities, innovative approaches, and crucial intergenerational actions required to fully realize the BPfA's vision in the next generation. This is an opportunity to foster renewed dialogue and commitment.

The esteemed panel features three young Kenyan leaders playing critical roles in the human rights and gender equality space:

  • Margaret Waithiegeni: Founder of Her Dignity, Her Pride, championing women's dignity and youth empowerment.

  • Mercy Mutheu Monicah: Rights holder at Intersex Kenya Advocacy and Education (I.K.E.A) and a young leader in the gender and education movements.

  • Yasmin Mohammad Nassur: Founder of SUPERB CBO, an intersectional pan-African feminist championing SRHR, GBV response, and meaningful youth engagement in Kibra.

The session will be moderated by Jaslika Senior Associate, Ms Mary Muito, a pioneer of girls’ education in Kenya, and WERK Member, Ms Angela Muathe, an award-winning Communication Specialist.
